Commit to making your safety a priority | Shocktober

Shocktober is a month-long campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of learning how to use cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Each day, approximately 21 Victorians experience a cardiac arrest, with only 10% surviving. Immediate intervention is crucial in these moments.

Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood effectively, putting the person’s life at immediate risk.

For every minute CPR is delayed, the chances of survival decrease by 10%. However, if CPR and an AED shock are administered before paramedics arrive, the likelihood of survival more than doubles.

Restart A Heart Day on 16 October is a key event within the Shocktober campaign, joining global efforts to educate communities on the life-saving skills of CPR and AED use.

By learning these critical techniques, we can collectively improve cardiac arrest survival rates and save lives.
